3D tab > Modify group > Boolean operations menu > Boolean, intersect, BOOLEANOP
You can subtract, combine, and intersect 3D polyfacemesh objects with each other using Boolean operators. The outcome object is also a 3D polyfacemesh.
Note: You can only use Boolean operations on solid objects. You can create solid objects from 2D objects using the Extrude command. See Extrude.
Subtract
Subtract 3D polyfacemesh objects from other 3D polyfacemesh objects.
Do the following:
-
Select the source object(s) that you want to keep in the drawing.
-
Press Enter.
-
Select the clipping object(s) that you want to subtract from the first object.
-
Press Enter.
The program subtracts the second object(s) from the first, creates openings in their place, and removes the original objects.
Note: To avoid tolerance problems, define the clipping 3D polyfacemesh objects larger than you actually need in directions that make no difference to the outcome, as shown in the image above.
Union
Combine 3D polyfacemesh objects into a single 3D polyfacemesh object.
Do the following:
-
Select the first object that you want to combine. This object defines the color and the layer for the outcome as shown in the image above.
-
Select the second object.
-
Press Enter.
The program combines the two objects into one 3D polyfacemesh and removes the original objects.
Intersect
Create an object that contains the intersecting parts of two 3D poylfacemesh objects.
Do the following:
-
Select the first object that you want to create an intersection for. This object defines the color and the layer for the outcome as shown in the image above.
-
Select the second object.
-
Press Enter.
The program removes the objects and creates an object that contains the intersection of the two objects.
