Project settings

In this section, you can define common project settings, such as the design language.

• Full ID system – The application uses a location-based ID system. Device's full ID will be created based on the location: =Object ID+Electrical position-Device: =123+MCC1-X1, for example.

• Design language – Select the design language that determines the wiring color abbreviations and the language of the default frame, for example. The default report language is also based on the design language.

• Locale – Select the locale. By default, the locale is Other.

• Standard – Define the project-specific standard (IEC or ANSI, for example) to be used. The standard determines what kind of symbols are available for toolsets. The default for new projects was defined when the application was first installed. You can also change the standard/locale in the Electrical settings by clicking Default project settings.

• Date format (default) – Select the desired date formatting for the project:

  • According to Windows settings
  • dd/mm/yyyy
  • m/d/yyyy
  • d/m/yyyy
  • d.m.yyyy
  • d.mm.yyyy
  • dd.mm.yyyy
  • yyyy.mm.dd
  • yyyy. mm. dd.
  • yyyy-mm-dd
  • dd-mm-yyyy
• IFC version – Select the IFC version based on which the version-specific values (types, properties, property sets, etc.) are shown in the application. In IFC export, it is possible to select the IFC version – if it differs from the version selected here, the user will be notified as that version might not include all the needed values.

In this section, you can define settings for the drawing frames and labels.

• Update target information automatically to drawing – Select this if you want target information defined for the project to be updated to drawing frames and labels in the drawing.

• Default drawing frame/label – Define the default drawing frame/label for the desired document types. The value can be a full path to the symbol, a file name, or a symbol name if the symbol is located in the symbol directory.

  These settings are used by default when inserting frames/labels. If default frames/labels have not been set here, the frame/label is set according to the Drawing frames and logos dialog.

In this section, you can define translation-related settings, such as which translation database to use.

The translation function can be set up to use several translation databases. You can define the number of databases and the paths. Translations can then be easily adjusted to different project and customers needs. Translation databases can be grouped, for example, to project's translation database (primary), customer's translation database (secondary) and common translation database (tertiary).

Database paths can contain multiple paths separated by semicolons (;). This way, you can ensure, for example, that there is always a translation database available by adding a database on a server as the first path and then a local database as a backup.

The translation function uses the first path that is valid and contains the database file.

In this section, you can define settings for reports.

• Location of project-specific report templates – Define the location from which all templates are shown in the reporting function.

• Location of common report templates – Define the location of common report templates. The default is [Application folder]\Electrical\DB\ReportFiles).

• Use prefix visibility settings in reports – Select this if you want prefixes used in the full ID system to be shown in reports according to project's prefix settings.

• Prefix for report file names – Define the prefix added in the final report file name. You can either create the prefix automatically with the $ tags, or enter a fixed value (such as BOM_):

  • $P:name$_ – Project name

  • $P:job number$_ – Job number

  • $P:target 1$_ to $P:target 6$_ – Target row 1 to 6

• Add language name to file names of translated reports – Select this if you want to add the language defined for the report to report's file name.

In this section, you can define settings related to generation of drawings.

• Location of template drawings/modules – Define the directory for template drawings.

• Prefix for drawings generated from circuits – Define the prefix that will be added to the beginning of file names for generated drawings.

In this section, you can define the size and appearance settings for wiring diagram symbols.

• Module spacing – Define the spacing for wiring diagrams. Typically, the module spacing is 3.5 mm. If a drawing has been created by using module spacing of 2.5 mm, the same module spacing should be set. Then the symbols which is to be added in the drawing are reduced to correspond this spacing.
• Use module spacing in terminal strip – This setting affects terminal strips and cable termination. If you enable this, the terminal strip will be drawn according to the spacing; the terminals will be drawn 3.5 mm wide with spacing 3.5 and 5 mm wide with spacing 2.5. If the setting is enabled, the terminal strip width as well as the cable termination width will be 4 mm.
• Big location and circuit attributes with 2.5mm module spacing – The size of some symbols will be reduced, if module spacing is 2.5. Enable this option, if you do not want the location and circuit attributes to be reduced. They will then be of the original size.
• Big ID attributes with 2.5mm module spacing – The size of some symbols will be reduced, if module spacing is 2.5. Enable this option, if you do not want the ID attributes to be reduced. They will then be of the original size.
• Big attributes with 2.5mm module spacing – The size of some symbols will be reduced, if module spacing is 2.5. Enable this option, if you do not want any attributes to be reduced. They will then be of the original size.
• Wrap Full IDs to multiple lines – Enable this if you want the application to divide IDs to different lines (max. 3 lines) when the symbol is inserted. Symbols need to have all these three ID attributes: E_OBJECTID, E_ELPOSID and E_ID. The division will be done according to the following standard punctuation: =, + and -.

• Show prefix with locations – Select this if you want the standard punctuation ( = , +) to be shown for location IDs.
• Show prefix with device IDs – Select this if you want the standard punctuation ( = , + , - ) to be shown for device IDs.

In this section, you can define the information shown for cross-references.

• Cross-reference special format – Select the desired special format for cross-references:

  • ($Drawing number$)$Sheet$/$Column$:$Row$ – The cross-reference will first show the drawing number in parentheses, and then the sheet number followed by the column and the row.

  • ($Filename$)$Sheet$/$Column$:$Row$ – The cross-reference will first show the file name in parentheses, and then the sheet number followed by the column and the row.

  • ($Electrical position$)$Sheet$/$Column$:$Row$ – The cross-reference will first show the electrical position in parentheses, and then the sheet number followed by the column and the row.

• Include row information – Select this if you want row information to be shown in cross-references.



• Field for references to document – Select the text shown in cross-references and wiring references from project information:

• Drawing number

• Filename

• Object ID

• Electrical position

• Location

• Name 1

• Name 2

• Name 3

• Name 4

• Show always document info – Select this if you want document info to be shown in cross-references.
• Use cross-references between separate documents – Select this if you want cross-references to be used between different documents.
• Cross-references to contacts – Select this if you want the coil cross-reference to be shown for contacts. For auxiliary contacts, it is always shown.

In this section, you can define the information shown for wiring references.

You can define the following settings separately for wires and cables:

• Wiring reference special format

• Field for references to document – Define information to use in wiring references when referencing another document.

  • Drawing number

  • Filename

  • Object ID

  • Electrical position

  • Location

  • Name 1–4

• Show always document info

• Show sheet/column – Define the information shown of the sheet/column:

  • None

  • Sheet number

  • Sheet number/Column

  • Column

• Include row information – Define whether to include row information.

• Show remote-end connection – Define whether to include connection information (e.g. X10:3) from the other end. You can select to show

  • ID with or without pin

  • Full ID with or without pin

  • Customer ID with or without pin

  • Electrical position + ID with or without pin

  • Electrical position + customer ID with or without pin

• Remote-end description – Define whether to include description from the other end. If you select something else than Free text, you cannot edit the reference pair description fields in the Wiring reference dialog (see Draw wire and Draw cables).

Furthermore, you can define the following:

• Text placement – Define where to place the reference text: above the arrow or next to the arrow.

• Arrow direction

• Unpaired cross-references (Diagrams) and Unpaired cross-references (Arrangement drawings) – Define how unpaired references for diagrams and arrangement drawings are handled:

  • Delete – References without pairs will be deleted.

  • Mark – References without pairs will be marked with a cross:

    

  • Do not mark – References without pairs will be marked without a cross:

    

In this section, you can define the settings related to markings used with layout drawing cables and cable packages.

• Data shown in type attribute – Determines type of information shown with wiring marking:

• Type: Cable type, e.g MMJ 3x1.5 S

  

• Type 2

• Cross section area: Cross section area of the first signal wire (SIG) in cable.

• Cross section value, which will not be shown – If cross section area is selected to be displayed in type attribute, this cross section area will not be shown. i.e. only cross section area other that this will be shown.

In this section, you can define settings related to cable markings.

• Visibility of Type in drawing – Select when to mark the cable type information in the cable marking: always, never, or according to the symbol's attribute visibility.

  • When you select the According to visibility setting of symbol's attribute option, you can select to hide the cable type information in the Cable and Draw cable termination dialogs

  • When you select Always visible or Not visible, the option to hide the cable type information in the Cable and Draw cable termination dialogs is disabled.

• Default symbol of cable markings – Click the button and select the default symbol for cable markings in the Symbol selection dialog (see Symbol selection). Cable markings are available on the    (Electrical symbols) tab.

• Cable type-information – Select what is shown as type information for cables: Type, Type 2, Position or Description.

• Default symbol of cable package markings – Click the button and select the default symbol for cable package markings in the Symbol selection dialog (see Symbol selection). Cable markings are available on the (Electrical symbols) tab.

• Cable package type-information – Select what is shown as type information for cable packages: Type, Type 2, Position or Description.

In this section, you can define the default symbol for wire markings.

In the Default symbol for wire markings option, click the button and select the default symbol in the Symbol selection dialog (see Symbol selection). Wire markings are available on the (Electrical symbols) tab:

• Marking with tick line

  

• Marking on both sides

  

In this section, you can define the information shown when marking cables.

• Show cable ID – Select this if you want the cable IDs to be shown in the drawing when marking cables.

• Show wire number – Select this if you want the cable wire numbers to be shown in the drawing when marking wires. Cable wire numbers are shown based on the properties of the cables in the cable database.

• Show wire color – Select this if you want cable wire color shown in the drawings when marking wires. The color is based on the project language.

• Cable termination connection data – The options are:

  • Full ID

  • Full ID, simplified by boundary's location

  • Full ID, simplified by cable From/To connection

  • ID

  • No connection data

In this section, you can define the information shown when marking internal wirings.

• Show wire number – Select this if you want the wire number to be shown in the drawing when marking wires.

• Show wire color – Select this if you want the wire color to be shown in the drawing when marking wires. The color is based on the project language.

• Show wire type – Select this if you want the wire type to be shown in the drawing when marking wires. You can enter the type in DB tool, or when drawing the wire.

• Show wire name – Select this if you want the wire name to be shown in the drawing when marking wires. You can enter the name in DB tool, or when drawing the wire.

• Number of characters to use in wire number – Define how many digits are shown in the wire mark. If the value is 1 the number is shown complete but no zeros are added to front of number.

In this section, you can define the information shown for wire harness wires.

• Show wire harness ID – Select this if you want the wire harness ID to be shown in the drawing when marking wires. ID can be entered in DB tool or when drawing a wire.

• Show wire number – Select this if you want the wire number to be shown in the drawing when marking wires.

• Show wire color – Select this if you want the wire color to be shown in the drawing when marking wires. The color is based on the project language.

• Show wire type – Select this if you want the wire type to be shown in the drawing when marking wires. You can enter the type in DB tool, or when drawing the wire.

• Show wire name – Select this if you want the wire name to be shown in the drawing when marking wires. You can enter the name in DB tool, or when drawing the wire.

In this section, you can define the information shown for jumper bar markings.

• Show jumper bar number – Select this if you want the jumper bar numbers to be shown in the drawing when marking jumper bars.

• Show jumper bar color – Select this if you want the jumper bar colors to be shown in the drawing when marking jumper bars. The color is based on the project language.
• Show jumper bar type – Select this if you want the jumper bar types to be shown in the drawing when marking jumper bars. You can enter the type in DB tool, or when drawing the jumper bar.
• Show jumper bar name – Select this if you want the jumper bar names to be shown in the drawing when marking jumper bars. You can enter the name in DB tool, or when drawing the jumper bar.
• Number of characters to use in jumper bar number – Define the number of digits shown in the jumper bar mark. If the value is 1, the number is shown completely but no zeros are added before.

In this section, you can define settings related to layout drawing symbols.

• Show prefix with device IDs – Select this if you want standard punctuation ( = , + , - ) to be shown before the device IDs.
• Show prefix with location IDs – Select this if you want standard punctuation: ( = , + ) to be shown before locations (distribution board IDs).

In this section, you can define how customer IDs are shown for devices, locations, circuits, and cables. In addition, you can define how the I/O customer tags are shown. The options for all are as follows:

• Do not alter (default) – Select this if you do not want to change the visibility of the attributes nor add customer ID attributes automatically.
• Visible on new objects – Select this if you want to add the customer ID attribute and show it in the drawing when you add a new object. For copied objects, customer ID attributes will not be added nor made visible.
• Visible – Select this if you want to add customer ID attributes and make them visible when you open the drawing.
• Hidden – Select this if you want the customer ID attributes to be hidden and the normal IDs to be made visible when you open the drawing.

In this section, you can select Update information automatically to devices if you want the changes made to product models to be updated to all devices that use them.

In this section, you can define product information shown for symbols.

• Item code attribute update into the drawing – If you select this, the item information is updated between this project DB field and the E_ITEM attribute.

• Type attribute update into the drawing – If you select this, the information is updated between this project DB field and the E_TYPE attribute.

• Manufacturer attribute update into the drawing – If you select this, the information is updated between this project DB field and to the E_MANUFACTURER attribute.

• Elect.code attribute update into the drawing – If you select this, the information is updated between this project DB field and the E_ELCODE attribute.

• Power attribute update into the drawing – If you select this, the information is updated between this project DB field and the E_POWER attribute.

• Elec. 1 attribute update into the drawing – If you select this, the information is updated between this project DB field and the E_ELEC1 attribute.

• Elec. 2 attribute update into the drawing – If you select this, the information is updated between this project DB field and the E_ELEC2 attribute.

• Elec. 3 attribute update into the drawing – If you select this, the information is updated between this project DB field and the E_ELEC3 attribute.

• IP-class attribute update into the drawing – If you select this, the information is updated between this project DB field and the E_IPCLASS attribute.

• Tech.data 1 attribute update into the drawing – If you select this, the information is updated between this project DB field and the E_TECHDATA1 attribute.

• Tech.data 2 attribute update into the drawing – If you select this, the information is updated between this project DB field and the E_TECHDATA2 attribute.

• Tech.data 3 attribute update into the drawing – If you select this, the information is updated between this project DB field and the E_TECHDATA3 attribute.

• Tech.data 4 attribute update into the drawing – If you select this, the information is updated between this project DB field and the E_TECHDATA4 attribute.

• Clear product data attributes if no product data exists – Select this if you want to clear attributes related to product information from device occurrences if product information is not defined.

  Note: The attributes will not be cleared if the drawing is not in the database.

In this section, you can define the common settings related to symbols.

• Mark 'To be deleted' devices into the drawing – Select this if you want the devices marked as to be deleted to be shown in the drawing.

• Mark 'To be deleted' cables into the drawing – Select this if you want the cables marked as to be deleted to be shown in the drawing.

• Copy user symbol definitions to subdirectory of project directory – Define whether to copy your own symbol definitions to the subdirectory. You can only copy the product models, or both the product models and the devices.

  When you have selected to copy your own symbol definitions, your own cable marking symbol definitions will also be copied when you change the default cable marking symbol in the project settings.
