Replace symbols in multiple drawings

Home tab > Symbol group >  Edit menu > Change symbol, REPLACESYMBOLS

Replace one symbol to another in multiple drawings.

Do the following:

  1. In the Change symbol dialog, select the old symbol from the drop-down menu or from the directory by clicking the button.

  2. Select the new symbol from the drop-down menu or from the directory by clicking the button.

  3. If you want to transfer similarly-named attribute values of the old symbol to the new symbol, select Copy attribute values if attribute names match. Otherwise the program does not transfer attribute values.

  4. If the symbols have attributes whose names do not match and you want to replace their values, do the following:

    1. Click Define attribute connections. The Attribute connections dialog opens.

    2. On the list on the left, select an attribute of the new symbol that you want to use to replace an attribute of the old symbol.

    3. On the list on the right, select an attribute of the old symbol that you want to replace with an attribute of the new symbol.

    4. Replace other attributes by repeating steps b–c.

    5. If you select the wrong attribute or if you want to clear a selection, select <not connected> on the list on the right.

    6. When you have defined all replacements, click OK.

  5. Click OK. The Select drawings dialog opens.

  6. Select the drawings where you want to replace the symbols. You can select multiple drawings by pressing Ctrl and Shift.

  7. Click Open.

The program opens the drawings one by one, replaces the symbols, and saves the drawings.
