With the Create bill of materials function, you can create a bill of materials from the symbols in the drawing.

With the Bill of materials option you can open a menu with the following functions:

  • Count selected symbols in drawing – Count the total number of selected symbols. You must first select the desired symbol and then enter a title for the symbol. The title will be written to the bill of materials. Finally the program will prompt for a insertion point for the bill symbol. The symbol will be inserted on the layer SYMCOUNT.

  • Count selected symbols in selected objects – This function is similar as the previous function, except that the symbols will be counted from a user-defined area.

  • Count by defining conditions – With this function you can define the attributes that define the conditions for parts that are added to the bill of materials. In addition, you can limit the search to certain symbols. Define the attributes (max. 5) that compose the search conditions. If the option Include symbol name is selected, parts are itemized by attribute and symbol name. The bill of material will contain the condition attributes and symbol names separated by an underscore. You can search for the parts from the entire drawing or from selected objects.

  • Tag symbols of selected lines – The program asks to select a line from the bill of materials and will then tag all the symbols of the selected line with a red circle. The program will also display the number of found symbols. The tags will be erased when you redraw the display.

  • Set symbol name – With this option you enter the name by which the symbol will appear in the bill of materials. Select a symbol or bill line, then enter the part name and price.

  • Export selected lines into file – Create a text file from the bill of materials. The text fields are enclosed in double-quotes and fields are separated by a space. The text file can be imported into a spreadsheet application for further analysis. The program will first prompt for a name for the text file, the default name is <drawing_name>.txt and the default directory is the drawing directory.

  • Print selected lines – Print selected lines as a text file.

  • Turn Bill of materials layer off – Turn the bill of materials layer SYMCOUNT off.

  • Turn Bill of materials layer on – Turn the bill of materials layer SYMCOUNT on.
