Drawing area and scale
Although the drawing area is almost infinite, designers usually draw into a limited area. You can set the lower left corner and the upper right corner coordinates to limit the area that you are drawing on. You can still draw outside of the area as well. The applications include functions to set the drawing limits and the drawing scale.
In the base program, set the drawing area by selecting Tools > Set drawing area > Set drawing area.
Draw the drawing using real measures. Usually, one drawing unit in the program represents one millimeter. Therefore, draw a 15 meter long wall as 15 000 drawing units long. This makes it possible to print the drawing in various scales if necessary.
Drawing scale
You can set the drawing scale by selecting Tools > Drawing scale or by setting the drawing area.
The drawing scale setting helps in creating drawings that are printed in bigger scales. This setting is saved in the drawing (in the system variable SCALE). The scale affects the text size and linetypes. If the drawing scale is 1:10 and you set the text size to 5, the program draws the text as size 50 according to the drawing scale. The drawing scale also scales the size of parts in linetypes, such as in the dashed linetype.
So, if you draw a 20 meter long wall and view the drawing from afar, dashed linetypes look like straight lines and any text is too small to read. If you set a suitable scale, such as 1:50, you can see dashed lines properly and be able to read the text.
Important: Always use the program's own function to change the drawing scale if it has one. The function may set other settings as well, such as the dimension scale factor.
