Draw > Dimension > More Dimension
Select from the following dimensioning functions:
Detail/Part Number – Add detail number or a part number symbol.
Auto Dimension – Create, modify, and apply rules for automatically adding profile symbols, standard text, and/or dimensions to a drawing.
Auto Plate Dimension – Place dimensions in the active drawing based on the indicated contour relations of the plate to be selected. Once placed, the dimensions will be updated when the drawing is updated.
Working with Auto Dimension rules
Using rules you can automatically add profile symbols, standard text, and/or several types of dimensions to drawings. Rules enable you to dimension a series of construction items in one action. They can be used to automatically generate dimensions when you create new views or recalculate existing views.
Rules can be set for top, side and frame views, and they are saved per drawing type. For example, a rule created in a side view will be taken into account for every side view drawing, and is applied as soon as such drawing is updated.
You add, modify, and delete rules in the Auto Dimension dialog. You can also apply a rule to the currently active drawing, and remove items that were added based on a rule.
Add – Adds the values defined in the input area as a new rule to the list.
Modify – Applies changes suggested in the input area to the selected rule in the list.
Delete – Deletes the selected rule from the list. Note that deleting a rule does not remove any existing dimensions generated by it.
Remove All – Removes all automatically placed dimensions from the active drawing.
Apply – Processes all the rules present in the list.
Click OK to apply all settings and close the dialog.
Auto Dimension settings
- Dimension type – Sets the type of dimension to be used. Profile symbols and standard text can be selected as well.
- Construction type – Sets the type of construction to be dimensioned.
- Position – Sets the position of the dimensions in the drawing. The position will determine in which direction construction items are dimensioned. For example, in a side view, Left and Right will dimension construction at height values, such as decks. Bottom and Top will dimension construction at length values, such as floors and transverse bulkheads.
- X – Draws an invisible vertical line along which the dimensions are aligned, independent of the size of the box. For example, in a side view, setting a value for X will dimension construction at height values, with the dimension being placed at a length value. The value must be given in length units (mm/inch) and is measured from the origin of the drawing. Applicable only when the value Position is selected for Position.
- Y – Draws an invisible horizontal line along which the dimensions are aligned, independent of the size of the box. For example, in a side view, setting a value for Y will dimension construction at length values, with the dimension being placed at a height value. The value must be given in length units (mm/inch) and is measured from the origin of the drawing. Applicable only when the value Position is selected for Position.
- Box – Determines the size of the box in which construction is detected for placing the dimensions. The position of the box the same as what was selected as the Position setting. When left blank, the box is set around all construction present in the drawing.
- Distance – Sets the distance measured from the edge of the defined box to the corresponding dimension.
