COS network setup

A COS network consists of three kinds of COS servers:

  • Root server for Common Configuration
  • Master server for the master project database
  • Replica server for a replicated project database

In a COS network, the first server to be installed is the root server. The root server manages the Common Configuration where you can define the following: object type configuration, attribute configuration, user profile configuration, and security policy configuration. These configurations are shared by all servers in the COS network and by the databases that the servers host.

The root server can host the master databases—library database and project databases—but it is not necessary. The master databases can be hosted by a master server that is a replica of the root server.

Usually, the library database is located in the same server as the project database. In a project, most of the objects are from the library database; the project database can include project-specific parts and templates for document production.

The projects are being managed at the main (or master) site. It is the first site of the project and is implicitly created when the project is created. Other sites—subsidiary offices, subcontractors—are called satellite sites, and they are connected to the master site or other satellite sites.
