Lights
Click the
button to open Settings > Preferences with the tab Lights activated. This dialog is used to configure the lighting of the model.
There are five lights: one at each corner and one in the middle. That is, in terms of direction; they should be considered infinitely far away.
The top part of the panel (Source group) is used to select the lights whose properties are to be set. The settings for the selected light are shown in the bottom part of the panel, the Settings group. The properties of each selected light can be adjusted individually by selecting it from the Settings for drop-down menu in the Settings group.
A light submits two types of light:
- Diffuse – comes from a certain direction. It can be given a color.
- Specular – also comes from a certain direction, but has special properties of how it bounces off the material, it affects how shiny the material appears. It can be given a color.
Ambient light intensity can be adjusted with a slider, as a baseline amount of light that every part of the Hull Viewer model receives. The colour of the other kinds of light can be set separately. Selecting a light type in the Type of light group affects the group to the right of it (Diffuse light in the example above). The color can be set by Hue Luminance Saturation or by Red Green Blue values. The colour of the light is shown in the little colored rectangle in the Type of light group box.
The user is able to set a lot of lighting properties with this panel, but if so desired, the built in default values for all lights can always be restored by clicking the Restore defaults button.
