Creating Corrugated Bulkheads

A corrugated bulkhead initially exists as a set of corrugation profiles which are connected to each other. Then at some point the corrugated bulkhead is converted to a set of plates which are connected by knuckles. Therefore creating a corrugated bulkhead consists of two phases:

  1. Insert the corrugated bulkhead. A set of connected profiles is created.

  2. Convert the set of profiles into a set of plates connected by knuckles.

The complete corrugated bulkhead can be modified as a whole, or the individual elements can be modified separately. See Modify a Corrugated Bulkhead and Modify a Corrugated Bulkhead Element.

Corrugated bulkheads are fully topological.

Inserting Corrugated Bulkheads

Select Construction > Plates > Insert > Corrugated Bulkheads in the 3D-Contek application.

First indicate a base plate in plan view at which a corrugated bulkhead is to be placed. Then define the corrugated bulkhead properties.

A corrugated bulkhead starts at a specific line which is defined by a relation. This relation is defined in a similar way as a profile relation. This line must be a straight line.

Define the direction of the bulkhead, and the 'body' direction. The start and end of the corrugated bulkhead are always in the plate plane of the base plate.

The dimensions of a corrugated bulkhead are as follows:

  • L1: distance of first corrugated element to the start relation
  • L2: size of part which is parallel to the base plate at distance D
  • L3: size of slanted part when projected to the base plate
  • L4: distance between two consecutive corrugations
  • L5: maximum distance of the last corrugation from the base plate contour
  • D: depth of the corrugation

Note: When the corrugation starts at the center line, the direction to center line is to port side, and the direction from center line is to starboard.

Converting Corrugated Bulkheads

To convert the corrugated bulkhead to a set of plates, go to Construction > Plates > Modify > Corrugated Bulkhead > Convert Corrugated Bulkhead.

See Convert a Corrugated Bulkhead to a Series of Plates for detailed information.
