Flange Set
On the Ducting tab, the Flange Set group contains the following tools for adding and removing of flange sets in air ducts.
Insert
Insert adds a flange pair to a straight duct. After starting the tool, pick a straight duct.
-
If the duct is rectangular, the tool searches the ducting specification for a duct part design rule that specifies how to construct a flange or frame. If there are several possible joint methods for the given duct size, you are prompted to select which one to use.
-
If the duct is a flat oval (industrially manufactured part), the tool uses the fixed short code to get the flange from the specification.
Example of flange and frame sets in a straight duct:
Auto Insert
Auto Insert cuts a straight duct to pieces of maximum length, and adds a flange set to each cut. The tool is useful for controlling that duct length does not exceed a limit that is used in production.
After starting the tool, pick a straight duct.
If you select a rectangular duct that has connections, you will be prompted whether to add flange sets at the start and/or end of the duct. This happens in cases where the connections have no flanges and flange sets can be added. In case flange set is added to end of the duct that is connected, then the ownership of the neighboring part is also needed. If the neighboring parts are not checked out, then this question about flanges does not appear. Then, the duct is cut into fixed-length pieces, and a flange set is added between the pieces.
Note: If any of the cuts hits a branch anchor point, the operation is stopped. In such cases you need to do the cuts around branches manually.
For rectangular ducts, the maximum length is expected to be found from a design rule for rectangular straights. This needs to be defined in the same specification from where the plate material for the duct is obtained. For more information, see Duct part design rules for rectangular straight ducts.
For oval ducts, the maximum length is defined in the dimension table as dimension "MaxDuctLen". If this parameter is not specified, the tool does not cut the duct.
Delete
Delete deletes a flange set. After starting the tool, pick a connection point from duct centerline, for example with the Q shortcut key.
