Cut

You can cut a beam to turn it into two separately manageable beam objects.

Do the following:

  1. In the Beam group of the Structural tab, click Cut and select the appropriate plane normal from the list.

    • X, Y, Z – The cut plane normal is parallel to the specified main axis.
    • X, Y, Z – The cut plane normal is parallel to the specified main axis.

  2. Click the beam to be cut, and press Enter.

  3. Specify the cut plane normal if prompted to do so.

    In this example, the cut plane normal has been specified by pressing F to select the face of the beam cross section:

  4. Select the point where the cut should be made, and press Enter.

    In this example, pressing Enter would the cut the beam at the boundary between gray and brown:

  5. If you want to delete the beam from either side of the cut, click Delete in the Edit group of the Structural tab.
