Create a connection point

Most of the diagram symbols in the symbol library are equipped with connection nodes. Connection nodes define locations in a symbol to which other symbols may be connected via connection lines. A node also defines the direction of flow at the point: in, out, or any.

At the diagram level, two symbols or connection lines are connected to each other at points called connection points. From your point of view, connection nodes and connection points are basically the same.

For example, the symbol of the basic form non-return valve is defined so that there is a node at both ends, but flow direction is defined to be "in" at one end and "out" at the other.

For vessels, the situation is more complicated. The administrator cannot know in advance how many nodes will be needed. The P&ID application is built so that the you can create new connection points on the fly whenever one is needed.

Most of the vessels in the example environment do not have any nodes; thus, you must now create a connection point.

You created a connection in the previous exercise, but here it is again in a nutshell:

Do the following:

  1. Move the cursor to the point where you want to create a connection point.

  2. Press N, or right-click and select New Connection Point.

  3. Click Yes.
