About designing a diagram

In practice, designing a diagram is not a straightforward sequence of actions where steps follow each other in a nice order. For simplicity, however, we assume here that designing is such a step-by-step process.

Our design process consists of the following steps:

  1. Topology

    1. Insert equipment

    2. Route pipe runs

    3. Insert armatures into pipe runs

    4. Insert instruments and instrument lines

  2. Systems, Pipelines, and Instrument Tags

    1. Make new systems

    2. Make new pipelines

    3. Make new instrument tags

    4. Assign components to each of the above

  3. Modifying the Database Entries of Objects

    1. Add position ID and other data to equipment

    2. Add "piping" data to pipe runs and armatures

    3. Add position ID and other specific data to armatures

  4. Labels

    1. Add labels for equipment, armatures, and pipelines

  5. Query to Excel
