Using eBrowser in Microsoft Edge

After Microsoft discontinues support for Internet Explorer, embedded use of CADMATIC eBrowser can continue with Internet Explorer (IE) mode in Microsoft Edge browser.

Configuring Internet Explorer mode in Microsoft Edge for all users

After Microsoft discontinues support for Internet Explorer, embedded use of CADMATIC eBrowser can continue with Internet Explorer (IE) mode in Microsoft Edge browser.

The following instructions enable configuring all users to open eBrowser in Internet Explorer (IE) mode.

Do the following:

  1. Create or reuse a Site List XML.

  2. Add element <open-in>IE11</open-in> to all sites that will be opened in IE mode.

  3. Open Group Policy Editor.

  4. Select User Configuration/Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Microsoft Edge.

  5. Double-click Configure the Enterprise Mode Site List. Configure the Enterprise Mode Site List dialog opens.

  6. Select Enabled.

  7. Under Options, type the location (URL) of the enterprise mode site list. You can use one of the following locations:

    • (Recommended) HTTPS location: https://iemode/sites.xml

    • Local network file: \\network\shares\sites.xml

    • Local file: file:///c:/Users/<user>/Documents/sites.xml

  8. Select OK or Apply to confirm changes.

Enabling Internet Explorer mode in Microsoft Edge

Important: Cadmatic encourages enabling Internet Explorer mode on administrative level for all CADMATIC eBrowser users. For more information, see Configuring Internet Explorer mode in Microsoft Edge for all users.

Note: Group policies may prevent IE mode from being used, or they define a list of pages where IE mode is automatically enforced, when user is browsing to such address with Edge. For more information, see Microsoft Edge’s group policy related documentation: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/deployedge/edge-ie-mode-policies.
If such an Edge to IE mode redirection list is already in use, it should be considered to add eBrowser’s address to that list. For more information, see Microsoft Edge's documentation on Configurable sites in IE mode: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/deployedge/edge-learnmore-configurable-sites-ie-mode.
