3D eXchanger for PolyTrans® (Okino Computer Graphics)
What is PolyTrans?
PolyTrans is a 3D translation, optimization and viewing application by Okino Computer Graphics.
With PolyTrans you can convert a versatile set of 3D formats to other 3D formats. You can view the geometry via its 3D viewer and you can optimize the target format to be generated for faster visualization and more compact file and data size.

Typical usage in the CADMATIC context is:
- Import 3D mechanical CAD models to component models to be imported in Plant Modeller Interactive Component Modeler as a single component.
- Import 3D mechanical CAD models to Plant Modeller "as plant model", i.e. with object division and optionally some attributes if possible.
- Export Plant Modeller models "as plant model" to a mechanical CAD.
Which formats are supported?
3D models from many programs and formats are supported for example SolidWorks®, Maya®, 3ds Max®, Pro/E®, Catia® and Creo®. Please have a look at the Okino web pages for the list of import and export formats. Keep in mind that the supported formats depend also on which product pack of PolyTrans you select.
How to get PolyTrans with the option to read/write CADMATIC 3DP format files?
To do 3D geometry imports and exports related to CADMATIC you need to have the following set of components:
-
PolyTrans, usually with some add-on “Pack” (maybe most often the “CAD Pack”)
- This you should purchase from Okino. Contact them for details (e.g. that you want to use the product with CADMATIC and list your primary import/export 3D systems). They will help you to select the best 3D exchange formats and the corresponding product bundle.
- Okino supports PolyTrans.
-
Import and export plug-ins for Polytrans by Cadmatic Ltd.
- The plug-ins implement reading and writing CADMATIC 3DP files to/from PolyTrans
- The plug-ins are installed via main setup application. Note that the Okino Polytrans should already be installed before the plug-in libraries can be installed.
-
Floating license for importing/exporting 3DP files in Plant Modeller.
- The license is a floating license which will be added to your current license key and will use your current dongle.
- You will get the plug-ins and the license from Cadmatic Ltd, or from our reseller.
- Cadmatic will also offer you maintenance of the plug-ins.
What about using PolyTrans instead of eXchanger for AutoCAD® for DWGs?
While you can do it, it is still in most cases preferred to use eXchanger for AutoCAD for conversion, if 3D DWG is the source or the target of the conversion.
Note: 3D geometries, imported from 3D mechanical CAD systems, often generate component models with huge size (MBs). Take care that the size of individual models and cumulative size in the project stays reasonable (compare the size with native component models, made with Plant Modeller). With PolyTrans you have some tools to reduce the size with the cost of the smoothness of surfaces –a cost in most cases well worth paying it.
