Define instrument tags

Instrument Tags are only used in P&ID. They are administrative objects for instrumentation/control loops. They have similar functionality as pipelines for pipe runs. Thus, you could say that Instrument tags are "pipelines for instrumentation". An Instrument tag belongs to one system, and several objects can be members of the same tag. You can use instrument tags for identification of all the instruments in the project for listing purposes and so on. Typical Instrument tag objects are measurement or signal lines and controllers between them.

Do the following:

  1. Select Insert > Define > Instrument Tag.

  2. Select In, which you created earlier, as the system for the tag.

  3. Click OK to accept the default name. The Edit Instrument Tag Data dialog opens.

You can edit the name, but use a short name because of the limited space for the position ID in the instrumentation symbols.

  4. Enter data for the description and notes fields as needed.

  5. Click OK.

  6. Click Cancel to exit the defining mode.

Assign objects to instrument tag

Do the following:

  1. Select Home > Active Line group.

  2. Select In as the system.

  3. Select In-01 as the instrument tag.

  4. Click the green arrow to proceed.

  5. Select the LICA instrumentation symbol and the instrument lines to assign them to the instrument tag.

  6. Press Enter to accept the set.

  7. Press Esc to exit the defining mode.

The topology of our diagram starts to be ready. Now, it is time to add some data to the objects you have inserted.
