Network licenses

In order to use program a valid license is required. License can be either a user-specific license file or network license obtained from license server. When using license server program reserves license from license server only for time when program is running. This means that program can be installed to any number of workstations needed, but the number of network licenses limits the number of workstations where program can be used simultaneously.

If necessary, the network license can be borrowed; in this case the license can be used even when there is no network connection to the server computer. It is also possible to create license usage reports.

A software is installed to server to handle used and available software licenses. During installing software will retrieve customers licensing information from the CADMATIC servers.

Note: More detailed documentation on license server application and its installation can be found from Update Service.

Principle of operation

As shown below, the CADMATIC License Server software is installed on a network server. During installation, the licensing information is automatically retrieved from the CADMATIC server contain information about the number of available software licenses. CADMATIC License Server simultaneously monitors the number of running programs and manages the borrowing of licenses.

The software can be installed on all workstations if desired. If your network license has two licenses, the program can only be running on two workstations at a time.

When you start program it sends a query to license server for available licenses. If a license was found the application will start and the license will be reserved until program has been ended. If server has no available licenses, the application cannot start.

License usage reporting

The usage of network licenses can be reported using CADSReportService service that is included in CADMATIC License Server installation. This service creates monthly text files, which show who has used applications and how long applications have been used. Included CADS License report.xls file helps in reporting the usage. It sums up the usages by application.
