Hull Viewer models

Hull Viewer is able to display faceted models in the form of Hull Viewer Models (.hvm). This format allows for a quite exact presentation of the geometry, but is more strenuous on the hardware and takes up more disk space. The following construction types can be displayed in this format:

  • Profiles
  • Face plates
  • Webframes
  • Hull shape
  • Lugs

The following attributes for construction types can be displayed in this format:

  • Standard and arbitrary holes

  • Corner and draining holes

  • Endcuts

  • Snipes

  • Cutouts

Note: New attributes are generated when the Hull Viewer models (.hvm files) are created. For new attributes the files must be recreated. This can be done in the 3D-Contek application for all the parts in the active block by selecting General > Recalculate > All Construction Parts. The option Update also not geometrically changed 3D models has to be selected before starting the recalculation.

The creation of .hvm files can be enabled in System Management > Extra > Hull Server > 3D-Models > Settings > Output Format. Hull Viewer checks for files in this format when Use detailed models instead of extrusions is enabled in Settings > Preferences, on the Display tab. When an up-to-date .hvm file is found it is used, otherwise the .mod (3D model) file is used if present.

A hole can cross the boundary of a plate, possibly affecting an adjacent plate or plates. These adjacent plate(s) also get updated geometry. These plates need to be part a of visible block.

Note: Plates outside the active block are not automatically updated until opening those blocks again.
