Upgrading the License Server

You must upgrade CADMATIC License Server when you upgrade any CADMATIC software that uses the license server so that they are compatible with each other. Note that you do not necessarily need to upgrade all CADMATIC software clients even though the license server is upgraded; you can use the latest license server with a previous CADMATIC product release that is version 5 or newer.

Important: The upgrade process removes the authentication and logging settings of the license server. If using either of them, you must re-configure the settings after the upgrade. See Configuring Logging.

Prerequisites

  • You have a valid license file that is compatible with the license server version to be installed. You can check the required license file version number from the release notes.

If you are stopping to use the license server with a USB key, when requesting the new license file you must send the DeviceID of the license server computer to Cadmatic. You can get this ID by running the license server installer (or a special command-line tool that Cadmatic has provided to you) on the license server computer.

  • Make sure that users know that the license server will not be available for the duration of the upgrade process.

Do the following:

  1. In Control Panel, browse to the list of installed applications, select CADMATIC License Server, and click Uninstall to remove the old license server version. You are prompted to confirm the action.

  2. If User Account Control prompts you to allow the .msi installer to make changes to your computer, select Yes.

  3. You are prompted whether to allow the license server directory to be removed. Typically, you should select No so that only the old license server executable is deleted and for example existing log files are preserved.

  4. Still in the list of installed applications, check whether you have Sentinel Runtime or Sentinel System Driver Installer installed. If you are no longer using the license server with a USB key, you can uninstall these now and then reboot the computer if prompted to do so.

  5. Install the new license server version as described in Installing the License Server.

If you did not allow the existing license server installation folder to be removed, when installing the new version you are prompted whether to replace the current license file. Select Yes if you have a new license file, or No to keep on using the existing file.
