Upgrading the license server

It is recommended to upgrade CADMATIC License Server when you upgrade any CADMATIC software that uses the license server so that they are compatible with each other. Note that you do not necessarily need to upgrade all CADMATIC software clients even though the license server is upgraded; you can use the latest license server with a previous CADMATIC product release that is version 6.2.8 or newer.

Important: The upgrade process removes the authentication and logging settings of the license server. If using either of them, you must re-configure the settings after the upgrade. See Configuring logging.

Prerequisites

  • Computer to be used as the license server computer. This can also be a virtual computer. You can find the system requirements in docs.cadmatic.com/systemrequirements.

  • Internet connection using HTTPS protocol for connecting to Cadmatic's Product Services.

  • Free, unblocked TCP/IP ports for serving license requests (default is 2999) and using the web interface (default is 2998).

  • You have received an activation key from Cadmatic.

  • You have a user account for the Cadmatic Customer Support Portal and/or Cadmatic Update Service (only CADMATIC Building, CADMATIC Draw, CADMATIC Electrical, and CADMATIC HVAC applications), to download software or other materials.

  • Make sure that users know that the license server will not be available for the duration of the upgrade process.

Do the following:

  1. In Control Panel, browse to the list of installed applications, select CADMATIC License Server, and click Uninstall to remove the old license server version. You are prompted to confirm the action.

  2. If User Account Control prompts you to allow the .msi installer to make changes to your computer, select Yes.

  3. You are prompted whether to allow the license server directory to be removed. Typically, you should select No so that only the old license server executable is deleted and for example existing log files are preserved.

  4. Still in the list of installed applications, check whether you have Sentinel Runtime or Sentinel System Driver Installer installed. Since USB key is no longer used by license server, you can uninstall them.

  5. Restart the computer if prompted to do so.

  6. Install the new license server version as described in Installing the license server.
