Bevel configuration files

In CADMATIC Hull, beveling and welding functions are closely connected to each other. Several files and settings must be set up and modified by the system administrator before users can use and extract information from the system to its full functionality. In general, the system has functions to add beveling manually, but configuration files are used to predefine beveling rules which can apply bevels automatically to many construction parts.

There is a distinction between predefined bevels and bevel attributes:

  • Predefined bevels have fixed properties and are controlled solely by the system administrator, but the user can specify which predefined bevel is used.
  • Bevel attributes have properties which can be controlled by the user, instead of being restricted solely to the system administrator.

Plates always contain bevel attributes. Brackets can be set to use either bevel attributes or predefined bevels. All other applicable construction items only use predefined bevels.

Both predefined bevels and bevel attributes automatically create the weld lines which are appropriate for the construction. However, manual weld lines will not take predefined bevels or bevel attributes into consideration.

Plates, brackets and lugs have their bevels applied automatically once the configuration files are present in the system. Profiles have their bevels applied when the Bevel Generator function is run. However, the Bevel Generator function also checks and updates the bevels on other construction items, except manually defined bevels, in case any settings have been changed.

The "bevel" item in CADMATIC Hull actually includes a combination of edge properties:

  • The bevel shape (standard bevel types I, V+, V-, X, Y+, Y-, K, X+, and X-), taper and opening
  • Weld method and throat height
