Archiving
After a project has ended, archiving the project allows the project to be unarchived (restored) later, possibly with a different software version.
The archiving stores the project with all the library objects that the project uses. It also contains the part of the common configuration used by the library and project.
The archive files are CADMATIC export files (.cx), so they can be used as the base configuration for a new project, also in a newer software version. (A project backup can only be read using the same software version.)
Archiving projects
Project is automatically archived if you delete it in the CADMATIC desktop with Object > Delete Project. You can choose not to archive the project at this point, but the archive should always be made if the project is a real design project.
It is also possible to archive a project without deleting it, as described below.
If archiving a sister project, note that it can only be unarchived in the same COS environment where you archive it.
Do the following:
-
In the CADMATIC desktop, navigate to the project folder.
-
Select the project to be archived.
-
Select Object > Manage Project > Archive, and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process.
Unarchiving projects
Archived projects can unarchived (restored).
An unarchived project is almost exactly the same as the original project—it has the same name and the same object IDs. However, all user and time related information is lost; you can no longer see who originally created or modified an object or when a given event occurred.
A sister project can only be unarchived in the same COS environment where it was originally archived.
Do the following:
-
In the CADMATIC desktop, navigate to the project folder and make sure that no project is currently selected.
-
Select Object > Unarchive Project, and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process.
Important: Do not use this command to create a new project where you want to use part of the configuration, model or documents from the original project. Instead, do this with Object > Create Project.
