How to define direction in a view

If the direction that you need to apply is parallel to one of the currently open views, do the following.

  1. Activate the required view by pressing Tab or 4 until that view is active, or click the view if the focus is not in any view at the moment.
  2. Press the arrow key that points to the intended direction or close to that direction. If you want the direction to point up in the active view, press the up arrow key.
  3. If the intended direction is not exactly up, down, left, or right, press the same arrow key to rotate in increments of 15 degrees counterclockwise. When you are close enough to the target, you can press S to open a dialog where you can specify the actual polar coordinates of the direction. (The defaults are computed from the position that you achieved using the arrow keys.)
  4. When you have achieved the required direction, press Enter to accept it.

If the direction is not easily defined using the method described above, use the action keys described in Commands for defining direction.

Note: In axonometric views you can change your viewpoint by clicking the mouse wheel. This locks the cursor, and you can then drag the mouse to rotate the view and scroll the mouse wheel to zoom in or out. When you are happy with the viewpoint, click the mouse wheel again to release the cursor and continue defining the direction.
