Explode objects

Home tab > Modify group > (Explode), EXPLODE

Explode objects into individual objects.

When you explode objects, the following happens:

What you explode

What the program creates

Circles, arc, or text

Lines. By default, arcs and circles explode into lines because the value of the ARCEXPLODE system variable is 1. If you do not want to explode arcs and circles, change the value to 0.

Polyline

Lines and arcs

Dimension

Dimension lines into lines, arrows into fills, and dimension texts into texts

Symbol

Objects of which the symbol was created, so lines, arcs, etc.

You can explode objects in the following situations:

  • You want to edit a symbol. Explode the symbol into the basic elements so that you can edit them individually. Note that exploding a symbol means that it loses its symbol properties, whcih can affect the bill of contents. If you want to edit a symbol permanently, open it as a drawing file and edit it there.

  • You want to fill the letters of text objects with a fill hatch pattern. Explode the text into lines so that you can fill the areas between them.

  • You want to remove a single segment from a polyline. Explode the polyline into segments so that you can remove individual segments.

Do the following:

  1. Select the object that you want to explode. You can select several objects.

  2. Confirm the selection by pressing Enter. The program explodes the object into simple elements.

You can undo explosions using the Undo command. See Undo and redo previous commands.
