Doubler tool settings
The Doubler Tool Settings dialog contains user-specific settings for adding doubler plates to ends of beams and straight pipes.
The dialog opens when you start adding doubler plates by clicking Add in the Doubler Plate group of the Structural tab. You can also open it with the Tool Properties command while inserting doubler plates.
Settings for Target (Beam or Pipe)
-
Shorten target to make space for doubler plate – If selected (default), the beam or pipe will be shortened by the thickness of the doubler plate. Shortening is possible only if the target objects are checked out in your area model.
-
Max distance in target auto trim – Specifies the maximum search distance from the target object (that is to be trimmed) to a potential auto-trimmer object.
Settings for Plate
-
Current plate – Specifies the catalog part to use for the doubler plate. Click the
button to select the part from the object browser. When actually adding the plate to the target object, the system selects the smallest possible plate size from the catalog part.
Note: In this special context, the object browser's folders are filtered so that they only display catalog parts that are formed plates and thus valid to be used as doubler plates. Folders that do not contain valid doubler plate parts are displayed as empty. For more information on object browsers, see Object browser.
-
Offset between target and plate boundary – Specifies an offset from beam or pipe end (from the cross-section curve of the object in the trimming plane) to plate boundary. The system uses this offset value to select an appropriate plate size from the catalog; you can try to increase the offset to force a larger plate to be selected.
Settings for System
-
Make doubler plates to be in the same system as the target – If selected (default), doubler plate automatically belongs to the same system as the target object.
If you want a specific system to be used, clear this option and then click the
button to select the system from the object browser.
Note: This setting only affects new doubler plates; it does not change the system of any previously added plates.
