Shrinkage Management for Profiles

The following settings influence the amount of shrinkage compensation for profiles.

Overall Level (Default Shrinkage Compensation)

If the Production > Plate Cutting Data > Extra Length/Shrinkage > Plate Shrink.Comp. For Profile setting in the System Management application is set to Enabled, the system applies the shrinking compensation values defined in the Shrinking Compensation setting in the same settings group. This default shrinkage compensation affects all parts in the entire block.

Note that automatic and manual shrinkage compensation override these overall default block-level settings.

Manual and Automatic Shrinkage Compensation

If the Production > Plate Cutting Data > Extra Length/Shrinkage > Plate Shrink.Comp. For Profile setting in the System Management application is set to Disabled (default), the system applies the shrinkage values defined in %ncgnorms%\shrinkage\settings.dat for manual and automatic shrinkage compensation. This file defines shrinkage compensation factors for different profile types in different plate thickness ranges. Additionally, the material types of the profiles can be considered as well. See Settings File for Profile Shrinkage Compensation.

If the Plate Shrink.Comp. For Profile setting is set to Enabled, the system checks if the option Compensate profiles in length is selected in the Shrinkage Compensation dialog when manual shrinkage compensation is added to a plate.

  • When Compensate profiles in length is selected, the manual shrinkage compensation defined for the plate is used for the profiles connected to it, meaning that the connected profiles will have the same compensation as the plate. In this case the system overrides the overall default block-level shrinkage compensation.

  • When Compensate profiles in length is not selected, profiles are not compensated manually. The overall default block-level shrinkage compensation is used in this case if it has been defined.
