Starting to use P&ID
Before you can open the CADMATIC P&ID application, the following actions must be completed:
-
The administrator uses the CADMATIC desktop command Object > Manage Project to define the SQL Settings for P&ID Database and creates the database for storing diagram data.
-
The administrator uses the CADMATIC desktop command Object > Manage SQL database for P&ID to make the required customizations to the SQL database. This command can also create the database if it does not exist. For details, see Managing the P&ID database.
Important: The CADMATIC database in Microsoft SQL Server must be backed up regularly. The SQL database can be included in scheduled COS backups, as described in SQL Settings for P&ID Database.
-
The administrator ensures that each CADMATIC P&ID user has Microsoft ODBC Driver for SQL Server installed on their computer. After installing Plant/Outfitting, install the ODBC driver from the %PMS_ROOT_DIR%\Install folder, or from Microsoft, using either msodbcsql.exe or msodbcsql.msi.
-
Each designer creates a P&ID design area using the CADMATIC desktop command Object > Create Area For > P&I Diagram. Each user can have only one P&ID area.
