Open drawings

File > Open, OPEN

With this function, you can open DRW, DWG, and DXF drawing files. You can have multiple documents open at the same time, and each document (drawing) is displayed on its own document tab.

Do the following:

  1. In the Open file dialog, in the bottom right corner, select the drawing type that you want to open. The dialog shows you only the type of files that you selected. You can also select to see all CAD files.

  2. Select the file that you want to open or select multiple files by pressing Shift or Ctrl.

If the file contains a saved preview, the dialog displays it on the right. For more information on saving a preview for a drawing file, see Define directory settings.

  3. Select whether you want to open the file in Read-only-mode so that you cannot save any changes to the drawing.

  4. If you want to change the settings for DWG and DXF files, click Settings. For instructions, see Manage conversion files.

  5. Click Open. The program opens the drawing file, checks for errors in the file, and fixes them if necessary.

You can also start multiple sessions of the program and open different documents in each session. If you start the program when another session is running, the program does not start a new session but changes to the session that is already running. If you want to start several sessions, define it in the starting parameters. For more information, see Start the program using parameters.

Note: The program reloads fully only for the first session. This means that each session takes up a fairly small amount of memory, with the bulk of the memory used for the drawing itself. So, starting multiple sessions does not slow down your computer.

If a drawing has been saved with a preview image, you can preview the drawing in the dialog. You can sort files in the dialog in the same way as in the File Explorer by clicking the titles of the columns.
