Create top views

The properties of the view can be defined here. Typical properties are:

  • area of the view
  • intersection value in length direction
  • scale
  • display of the hull shape and/or the base line
  • display of outfitting

Clicking Next Top view applies all provided input, creates the drawing, and clears the dialog for defining another top view.

Clicking Create applies all provided input, creates the drawing, and closes the dialog.

The Top View dialog

Viewing angles – Switch to a different type of viewing angle. Select one of the following: Orthogonal (default), Single slant side view, Single slant frame view and Double slant. Selecting a slanted view type activates the relevant input fields for defining the position and angle of the viewing plane.

Reference surface plane – Sets the plane definition of the view according to the selected reference plane. Views of this type receive a topological dependency with the selected reference plane. Plates created in these views receive the same topology.

Distance – Gives the view an offset parallel to the reference plane while maintaining the topology. The view can be set to either side of the reference plane by using positive and negative values to determine the direction. The direction of a positive value is equal to the thickness direction stored in the reference plane. A negative value is in the opposite direction.

Note: An alternative way to select a reference plane is by selecting one of the lines representing a reference plane in the graphical window. These lines can be made visible by checking the REF selection box in the status bar. The dialog will be updated, indicating the reference plane which was selected and showing its viewing plane coordinates.

Area settings – Set the area limitations of the view by entering values in the length and breadth directions. Grid values and length units (mm/inch) can be used. The system remembers the area settings, and they are prefilled the next time a top view is created in the same block.

Multiple views – These settings provide the ability to create multiple frame views in one action.

  • No. of sections [1] – Set the amount of intersections (views) to be created. The default value is 1.
  • Step size – Set the distance between the multiple intersections (views) to be created.

Scale – Set the scale of the drawing. The default value is the last scale used when creating a view in the active block. When no view has been created yet, the default scale is used. The default scale can be set in System Management > Drawings > Properties > Default Drawing Scale.

Drawing number – Set the drawing number.

Additional content – These options control the additional content that can be added to a view.

  • Show outfitting – Show the available outfitting components if present.

  • Show profile flange – Show profile end shapes. When not selected, end flags are presented instead of the end shapes.

  • Show construction – Show the 3D construction in the view, if present.

  • Show shell plates – Show shell plates or the projection of shell plates in cross section.

  • Show shape – Show the hull shape in the view, if applicable.

  • Centre line – Show the centre line.

  • Base line – Show the base line in the view, if applicable. This line can only be seen in frame views, side views, and certain slanted views.

    • Position – Place the base line at an offset value. When left empty, the base line will be left at its default position.

    • Step – Set the interval at which the numbers along the base line are displayed. When left empty, the interval defaults to 2, which means that a number is added every other frame.

  • Frame Line – Show a frame line in the drawing, according to the default height grid of the block. This line can only be seen in perpendicular views.

  • Height line – Show a height line in the drawing, according to the default frame grid of the block. This line can only be seen in frame views, side views, and certain slanted views.

    • Position – Place the height line at the left or right side of a drawing.

    • Step – Set the interval at which the numbers along the height line are displayed.

  • Width line – Adds a width line to the drawing, according to the default width grid of the block. This line can only be seen in top views and certain slanted views.

    • Position – Place the height line at the left or right side of a drawing.

    • Step – Sets the interval at which the numbers along the height line are displayed.

  • Hull line symbols – Show hull line symbols in the drawing. Hull line symbols are shown for those hull lines which are defined in the hull line properties file HLProperties.xml, and which fall within the hull line range defined for that hull line type in HLProperties.xml. See Defining extra hull line properties. Hull line symbols are shown at the position where the hull line crosses the view.

  • Auto Dimension – When selected, all rule-based dimensions applicable to frame views are automatically added to the drawing when the view is created. This setting is only available when one or more rules have been defined for this type of drawing. The default is set in Tools > More Settings > Block Properties. Creating the rules is done using the Auto Dimension function, see More Dimension functions.

  • Replace – Replace any frame view drawings already present with new frame view drawings at the same intersection values.
