Placing Part Labels

Part Labels can be used to show the part number, name or dimensions of different construction items. Part labels are placed with the Production > Logistics > Part Labeling function.

There are 18 types of construction items that can be labeled, 8 related to Hull construction and 10 related to piping construction.

A part number attribute symbol is automatically placed for each part label on the labeled part if it has a part number other than -1, at the point clicked when placing the label.

Part Number Attribute Symbol

The part label is connected to the part number attribute, and the system automatically adds an indication line between the part label and the part number attribute symbol.

For information on how to select the parts for labeling, see Part Selection Methods in Part Labeling.

Note: A part label can lose the relation to the linked part if the part is changed, copied or moved. In this case the system will ask to either delete the label, keep the label unlinked, or re-link the label to a part.

Part Label Models

There are three different types of part label model: Number, Dimension and Text. The part label models which are used for each construction type are defined in System Management > Presentation > Part Labels > Part Label Models.

The models can be customized by the system administrator. See Part Label Models under Managing Production Information.

By default, a part will have its material included in the part label model only if the material of that part is different from the standard material. This behavior and other presentation options can be defined in System Management > Presentation > Part Labels > Settings.

Parts can have all three model types placed for them within the same drawing.

Note: The same type of part label cannot be placed more than once on a part. If there is a same type of part label already on the part, the part label will not be placed. However, you can force the system to place a new part label with keyboard shortcut p. The system will prompt you to remove the old part label which has become unlinked.

Keyboard Shortcuts

The following keyboard shortcuts can be used when labeling parts:

  • f – Forces the position to the indicated point. This way you can avoid the system selecting the part nearest to the indication point. Normally the system attempts to select the nearest part.

  • c – Select a part in cross-section.

  • p – Create a new part number attribute which will replace the current one.

  • s – Starts the move function with the most recently positioned part label.

  • z – Starts the interactive move function with the most recently positioned part label. See Interactive Move.
