Profile beveling rules

In CADMATIC Hull, profile bevels are based on predefined bevels. Applying predefined bevels are based on specific rules which are saved in the project norms (see Rules below). These rules are applied when the Add bevels option is selected when the Bevel Generator function in the 3D-Contek application is used for adding bevel information to profiles and shell frames. This way, it is possible generate nearly all of the bevel and weld data automatically.

Note: Bevel Generator does not add predefined bevels to the base lines of pillars, except for pillars which are pillar-profiles.

The Construction > Profiles > Modify > Green function can be used to add extra length to profiles, to add extra bevel information, or to override the bevels chosen automatically by Bevel Generator.

If variable bevels are to be applied to the baseline of the profile, the settings for splitting the angle in the DXF output can be defined in Angle markers on variable bevels.

Predefined Bevels

The predefined bevels are defined in System Management > Construction > Welds/Bevels > Predefined Bevels. Each predefined bevel has a unique identifying number.

Each profile can have up to 5 predefined bevels: one for the profile base connection (conn_prf_base), two for the body connections (conn_prf_body) and two for the flange connections (conn_prf_flange).

Rules

The Hull administrator determines which predefined bevels Bevel Generator applies by defining the profile beveling rules. A rule consists of one or more expressions, each pointing to either another rule or the number of the predefined bevel to be used if that expression is true.

Profile beveling rules are defined in System Management > Construction > Welds/Bevels > Profile Bevel Rules. The method of defining the profile bevel rules is similar to defining plate beveling rules, see Plate beveling rules.

The rules defined in the System Management application are stored in bevel configuration files as profilepdb####.cfg in the project's norms, in <project>\norms\cvar\weld. The configuration files can be edited manually with a text editor. See Defining profile beveling rules with configuration files for more information.

When Bevel Generator is used, it calls the file named profilepdb0001.cfg, and the rule file then determines which other file should be called, depending on the type of weld connection.

Note: To use rules, the Profile Beveling setting in System Management > Construction > Welds/Bevels must be set to Use predefined bevels.
