Supported systems and file formats

CADMATIC Plant/Outfitting has been designed to be as open as possible, to enable smooth cooperation, integration, and interfacing with other technology suppliers and software systems. The open database and numerous interoperability functions enable data to be easily transferred between systems. Various eXchangers enable data exchange between different software programs, with options to include metadata or retain reference models only. Construction documents can be generated in common formats, such as DWG and PDF, and delivered as required.

Use cases for integration

The table below lists use cases where imports and exports enhance interoperability between CADMATIC Plant/Outfitting and other software systems.

Use case

Description

3D interoperability (STEP)

Standard for the Exchange of Product Data

You can use Component Modeller and Plant Modeller to import and export Standard for the Exchange of Product Data (STEP) files.

The STEP file format is an open, standardized format maintained and developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). Specifically, STEP is part of the ISO 10303 standard, which is designed for the exchange of product model data in CAD, CAM, and CAE applications. As an open standard, STEP is widely adopted across industries for interoperability between various CAD systems, including CATIA, Siemens NX, and SolidWorks.

Additionally, you can use Component Modeller and Plant Modeller to import various other formats, with STEP serving as an intermediary format. This interface requires the installation of the CADFix program and the applicable CADFix licenses. The CADFix program provides options to simplify imported models.

For usage instructions in Component Modeller, see Import File.

For usage instructions in Plant Modeller, see 3D-Import Manager and STEP export.

As-built modeling with point clouds

You can use Plant Modeller to import point cloud data in various ASCII and binary Point cloud formats, including third-party and CADMATIC file formats, to create accurate 3D models of existing structures and environments for renovation, retrofitting, or documentation workflows. For usage instructions, see Point Clouds (Laser Scan Modeller).

Building Information Modeling (BIM)

CADMATIC Plant/Outfitting supports import and/or export of many widely used BIM formats such as DGN, DWG, NWD/NWC, IFC (IFC2x3), and RVT.

For usage instructions in Component Modeller, see Import File.

For usage instructions in Plant Modeller, see Imports.

Mechanical CAD

CADMATIC Plant/Outfitting supports many mechanical CAD formats. CADMATIC 3D eXchanger for PolyTrans alone enables over 100 mechanical CAD formats to be imported and exported through Okino conversion modules. For usage instructions, see 3D eXchanger for PolyTrans® (Okino Computer Graphics).
